So Charlie is 5 and wants to be soarin’ this year for CONvergence. I am making foam wings and ears right now. I think we’re going to go down the path of blue hoodie, blue jeans for outfit. flight suits in his size run like 70 bucks and I don’t have the time to sew one. For the hoodie, I plan to sew on the yellow bolts and attach the wings to the back. His cutie mark will be painted onto his jeans. I am thinking of making a “tail fall” (like a hair fall) out of blue yarn on a rubber band so I can just attach it to a belt loop. then the jeans are still usable afterwards! yay! He has blue goggles already. I plan to put some spay in blue in his hair, and of course, get a picture of him eating pie! The best part is, he has a little girlfriend, she is dressing up as princess Celestia, I can pull of pinkie pie with the stuff in our closet, and her step mom is going as flutter-shy! Its gonna be great! I can’t wait! lol.
So this what we’re going for, I think, there are some modifications he wants to make to it. But I really love the new outfit. I am working the belt buckle tonight. My finger tips a raw from wrapping wire for the frame of my Ursala costume. I plan on using foam for most of the armor, but I have NO IDEA how I’ll pull off the boots… oh well.
So, I got Charlie’s MLP wings glued.
But I think the wire might not be strong enough to hold them up and out. I am planning on attaching them to the back of a blue hoodie (He’s going as Soarin’ of the Wonderbolts) So I think I might need to try and add more wire inbetween the foam…. yay. lol
This woman made her own custom dress form for fitting clothes specificly to her. OMFG I need this, one for every person I sew for, Jesus, it would make my life CAKE! Think of it, one day with a dress form and then I never have to deal with making time to meet someone for a simple fitting? LOVE IT.
This is the tutorial I’ll be using for my BF’s Green Arrow Costume. Its the closest thing I could find to sewing and painting, which I’ve been doing forever. I’m already using craft foam for Charlie’s MLP wings and ears. So I have plenty laying around.
So I’ve been watching this transaction develop on my dash for quite some time now, and instead of messaging the person who these comments are directed at, I decided my point would be better illustrated in a form of a post.
The receiver of this hate is the marvelous Tipsybutt. For you to better picture her, here are some pictures of her in cosplay:Full size is here.
She’s a really cute girl isn’t she? Not only is she cute but you can see two other things in these pictures.
The first would be that her cosplays are well made and that she clearly puts forth a lot of effort into them.
I can’t stress that enough. You could be a size 00 and your cosplays could be shit. You could be prancing around the con in a ratted wig, a closet cosplay, and a makeup job that would make even a blind person cringe. And still be a size 00.
And no, those photos are not deceiving. I have personally seen two out of three of those cosplays in real life and they’re fantastic.
The last thing you see when you look at her is her weight. It’s irrelevant.
I personally notice the workmanship, the handmade skirt, top, the styled wigs, the flawless makeup, the chainsaw prop. They’re all wonderful.
If you can’t see those things, or cannot look past something so meaningless as weight then you obviously do not have the sane judgement of whether or not a cosplay is a decent quality.
You think you do, but in reality you don’t. You’re just too caught up in the fact your opinion is the right one to realize that.
The second thing that you notice in Tipsybutt’s photos is that she is enjoying herself.
And guess what. That is what cosplay is about. When it comes down to it isn’t about whether you buy or make the costume, or your skin color, or whether you’re underweight or over it. It’s about having fun.
If you like making the costumes that’s awesome. If you enjoy only going to the meetups and just buy it that’s fine too. If you just wanna cosplay your OC. It’s all fine. However, if you need to bash someone for the fact they are having fun, degrade them and tell them they’re trash, they’re worthless, then guess what.
You’re cosplaying wrong.
You could have the most elaborate dress or armor suite or prop and I would not give a flying shit. If you cannot have fun without putting everyone else around you down, then this hobby is obviously not for you. Why? Because all of us who are doing this are part of a sub culture. We are all judged for dressing up in a costume, overweight or not. To mainstream society we’re all just a bunch of losers in costumes.
But hey, we’re happy losers so that’s all that matters.
Except for you it seems. It seems you get your kicks out of making everyone else feel like shit, or attempting to. And as a result, you’re cosplaying wrong, not Tipsybutt. She isn’t gonna stop anytime soon and you’re getting no where with your goal of degrading her. You’re only making yourself unhappy.
As a result, you need to stop. Both sending messages that go against Tumblr’s community policy and cosplaying.
You’re only hurting yourself in the long run.this this this a million times this.
and the same goes for people underweight or any weight really.
remember, kids, your mouth and your asshole should remain two separate things, don’t spew shit from both ends.if you feel the need to insult someone because of their weight
This right here is a rare example of a bigger girl cosplaying in a way that’s flattering for her figure. There needs to be more of this happening in plus-sized cosplay.
I love cosplay photography. When its done well, like this, it really brings a charactor alive. I found the whole set over on r/cosplay But I think know they came from deviant art. Either way you find them definitely worth the look.
A New Adventure: Making Armor
So I’ve been readin (and watching) up on how to make Costume Armor. My background is in sewing, and prop making has been a largely new arena for me in the past few years. I can mod Nerf guns like nobody business. (tutorial and pics to come) But the whole making armor thing I can honestly say I’ve never attempted. Well, with this green arrow costume coming up, that’s going to have to change, and frankly I am terrified. I’ve read a few ways and am having a brain storing meeting with an SCA friend this weekend. But there seems to be sooooooo many ways to doing it, and I am (as always) worried about da $$$.
WAIT. this is green arrow! lol
